Well today is a very interesting day. I boarded a plane at 6:30 a.m., following the yellow brick road as it were, to receive an award for mentoring and teaching students the art of photography. It’s a big deal. One of my “students” has out of about 165,000 entries, received a gold medal for his achievement in photography! (pictures to follow on a plane now) I receive an award for giving him the tools to pull that feat off! The awards ceremony is being held in New York at Carnegie Hall!! Must say im pretty stoked! Well plane is landing more dribble and photos to follow until then……..of to see the wizard.
“Great Loss”
•March 17, 2010 • Leave a CommentLoss…… How can we define this word? It means so much to so many different people. Of course we can go with the obvious theme of the last year, ECONOMICS, but I have to define it as something else today. We have lost, even if for a moment, some very close friends. They have moved away to Africa and my wife and I won’t see them for a while. We will miss them and all the things we did together. My wife and I are glad we had the opportunity to get to hang out with such an awesome couple. We plan see to visit them in Ethiopia and look forward to taking some great shots while in Africa. Of course, Troy and I, with the rest of the gang, will be doing the”wild hogs” annual bike trip! Cant wait to see the Oregon coast!!!! Here are a few photos from our last trip together. Happy viewing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our Milestones

“From one light post to the next”
At a recent meeting, I heard a smartly put together young woman talk about her approach to running. She didn’t enjoy it and apparently devised a plan to break up the task so it didn’t seem so daunting. Instead of thinking in terms of miles she would focus on getting from one light post to the next. As she shared her idea she seemed to, well, I cant think of a better word so I’ll just say it, glow. The look that comes from defeating the voice within that says I’ll do it tomorrow, or I’m too tired, or worse…. I can’t. It was encouraging to hear triumph mingled with that feeling of accomplishment that comes from succeeding at a dreaded task.
I got it.
Eric and I love photography, in fact taking pictures is the easy part. Who could ask for more…one couple that appreciates love, hanging out with another couple at the beginning of their marriage, a journey that we’ve found to be an incredible one. (There were lightpost that we had to make it to, but is has been great!) Capturing the essence that characterizes each relationship is fun and nothing less than a privilege. In fact, after stepping away for a year or so, we found ourselves savoring that old feeling when we were hired to do a wedding this past January. We had a blast and so did the bride and groom. (You must check out the pics for Karmela and Dan.) We left the event excited and hopeful, for us and the newly married. It was good times good times!!!!
However, having run a business before, we know what the other side of the coin looks like. We hadn’t “set up shop” completely and had been putting off getting all our affairs in order.
Parting with the group, I thought of the many tasks that lay ahead for us, all neatly wrapped up in this cute phrase, “starting over”. After shooting weddings in Michigan for over ten years we’ve have chosen the constant sunshine of Las Vegas. With our shovels and salt behind us, we have come to love our new home. We are looking forward to building our momentum. Just like the runner, we realize that our work is cut out for us. We’ve done it before, will do it again, and would love your company.
Trish
